PSRS Artist Series with LOU DOILLON

Park Slope Rock School PARIS is proud to host Never Dim It Down: An Evening with Lou Doillon on May 16th, at Le Loft at La Bellevilloise.

For this intimate event, Lou Doillon and PSRS Founder Jason Domnarski will discuss the creative process, specifically the celebration of vulnerability, individuality and the human element behind musical creation – a rarity in the auto-tuned, highly edited world of current pop music. They will explore these ideas through listening examples, readings and performances of cover songs selected by Lou. The event will culminate in a performance of her original music, in which students from PSRS Paris will accompany the artist on stage.

Tickets are 10€ with proceeds to benefit UNICEF.

Brooklyn show and recording session

Our Brooklyn bands have had a busy couple of weekends! Last Sunday, the bands took the stage to a packed house at Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2 for our Spring Concert and they all sounded awesome! The following weekend, they hit the Bunker Studios to record their original songs from this semester. We are proud to offer this unique experience and it's one of our favorite days of the semester. The bands learn how a recording studio works and get a chance to track live and add overdubs in a beautiful 3000 sq ft facility. We're jealous! We're already looking towards our fall semester in September but first we have our Summer Songwriting Camps in July and August! Get in touch for more information if you're interested in joining us in the summer or fall.

GIBSON meets The Metal Dragons

One of our veteran PSRS Paris bands, The Metal Dragons, were invited to the Gibson Showroom to try out guitars and basses for their upcoming performance at La Cigale with Stéréokids on April 10th. The Gibson team were great hosts and the boys felt like real VIPs. Which instruments did they pick? A Slash Les Paul, of course :)  Thanks Gibson!

AFP Article and Video on PSRS

A big thanks to the AFP for such a nice piece on PSRS and our programs! We're so proud of all of our students (both child and adult) and we're happy to see them getting some attention on a global stage...

And here's a video with some great footage of one our concerts. It gives you a great feel for what it's like to be part of PSRS. When are YOU joining? (PS: Click on the video below and then click "Watch on YouTube"...)

L'OFFICIEL and DNA BROOKLYN Press

Phew. It's been a busy start to our fall semesters in both Brooklyn and Paris and we're just getting around to sharing with you some fun PSRS press...

In PARIS, one of our veteran bands, Shark Bath, played an outdoor gig for a fancy fashion party hosted by L'Officiel Magazine. They played 5 songs, including their originals, and the crowd loved it. They also got the chance to be photographed by the infamous Mathieu Cesar...quelle rock stars!

In BROOKLYN we were recently featured in a piece by DNA Info about kid rock band covers that sound "almost" as good as the original. Check out "Born To Be Wild"

BROOKLYN AND CT SUMMER CAMPS

It was another busy summer at PSRS Brooklyn! For the third year in a row, we brought our Songwriting and Recording Camp to Ivoryton, CT, in conjunction with the Community Music School. The week of songwriting culminated in another great visit to Dirt Floor Studios in Haddam.

It was then off to Brooklyn for two more weeks of camp. Our three Brooklyn bands wrote some incredible songs over the course of the week and our recording sessions at the Bunker Studio were one to remember.

Check out some of our songs from this years camps! Somewhat Sticky's "Cherry Skies" is a rocker, channeling the Beatles and Spoon. "All Business" from Boxed Water tells the story of a con man/rock star, making music for the money. And the Thorny Roses "Turn Around" is a classic anti-establishment protest song, complete with 70's style four part harmonies. We had some great talent this year!

SONGWRITING WORKSHOP WITH JARVIS COCKER AT APC STUDIOS

For our second Artist Series event, students at PSRS Paris and their parents attended a Songwriting Workshop with the legendary English musician Jarvis Cocker, hosted at APC Studios. Jarvis started the evening with a lecture on lyric writing and even performed the first song he ever wrote, "Shakespeare Rock." The second half of the evening was devoted to a live lyric writing session with audience participation. The audience and Jarvis wrote an entire songs lyrics in 15 minutes and the final song was performed live by PSRS Paris students and Jarvis. Thanks to Jarvis and APC for helping us create an event that our students will surely remember for a lifetime.

FIRE STRAPS HIT THE STUDIO

One of our veteran Paris bands, the FIRE STRAPS, hit the recording studio last weekend to record an original song and a cover by Kings of Leon. After a day of tracking, the band spent a day mixing the songs, with lessons on compression, EQ, delay and other mixing techniques. We've been working with these guys for several semesters now and we're very proud to help them discover their talent and creativity through music. Check out their original song "Black and Blue" below...it rocks VERY hard.

MASTER CLASS WITH PHOENIX!

We have lots of fun things in the works for 2015, one of which being the launch of our PSRS "Artist Series." PSRS will be hosting a series of workshops and master classes, inviting well known artists to share their experience and inspire our students (and families). We started the year with a bang when Christian Mazzalai from PHOENIX hosted a master class for one of our advanced groups. The band has been learning "1901" by Phoenix and Christian stopped by to show them a few tricks and talk about his band's songwriting process. Our students then had the opportunity to perform their original song for Christian and he gave them some great feedback. A huge thanks to Christian for giving our students a very special experience...it's the first of many!

Brooklyn Recording Session at Bunker Studios

We're very proud to have Bunker Studios in the PSRS family and we're always excited to give our students the opportunity to record original music at such an amazing studio. Our fall bands hit the studio in December and one of our PSRS alumni, Mila Stieglitz-Courtney, took some great pictures of the afternoon.
